Dr. Audrey Blacklock

Even though Dr. Audrey Blacklock is the newest doctor to join Northland Eye Specialists, she already has patients who can thank her for their vision and their lives. Dr. Blacklock explains, “I received a call late in the day about a young pastor whose eyelid was drooping and vision blurring. He visited an emergency room and was released. His vision hadn’t improved so he made an appointment with me. A medical eye exam indicated Horner’s Syndrome. I immediately sent him for further tests, which revealed his carotid artery was 90% closed and splitting. He was headed for a massive stroke and death had it not been caught and treated in time. The hospital uses this scenario to prove eye doctors save lives. To this day, the pastor or I or both us get emotional during his routine exams. He has a wife and young children.” Making time for conversation and really listening during an exam is part of her routine. “An exam tells most of the story, but talking to the patient gives me the whole picture. That is what I need to help keep you and your eyes healthy,” she says.
